The landmark of Retz
The Retz landmark is clearly visible from miles away and overlooks the town from among the vineyards. The windmill is the only operational corn mill in Austria that is naturally powered by wind. The sails turn on a weekend when the wind is right. A wine taster or grape juice is included as part of the guided tour.
Tip:
Bread-making in the bakery at the windmill. Everyone bakes their own loaf of bread – the hand-kneaded dough is slid into the stone oven in the traditional way in the proving baskets. You can take the authentic windmill bread home with you.
