The Gugging Museum houses a permanent selection of fascinating paintings, drawings and objects by the Art Brut artists from Gugging and is constantly expanding its exhibition spectrum with international representatives of this trendy, highly regarded art movement.

The Gugging Museum is Austria's only exhibition venue for Art Brut - an art movement that also includes the artists from Gugging. The Adolf Wölfli, Aloïse Corbaz or the Jean Dubuffets Collection offers visitors valuable insights into the exciting history and present of international Art Brut. With Art Brut, the French artist Jean Dubuffet described an original art that testifies to a highly personal and unadapted formal language. Free from the trends of current art, the artworks are created without an academic or art-theoretical background.

The museum also presents a comprehensive overview of the artistic activities of the Gugging artists. For example, the museum presents works by August Walla, Oswald Tschirtner and Johann Hauser, all of whom were successful worldwide. However, works by (almost) forgotten Gugging artists such as Franz Gableck and Otto Prinz can also be seen. The stimulating productivity of the contemporary Gugging artists who live in the nearby Haus der Künstler (House of Artists) is reflected in unusual and experimental exhibition formats - such as the workshops of the artists Johann Garber and Karl Vondal in the Gugging museum itself.

The inspiring atmosphere of the house, in the middle of the Vienna Woods, makes it possible for art lovers to enjoy art and nature at the same time.

The Museum Gugging is integrated into the internationally unprecedented Art Brut Center, which also includes Gugging Atelier and Gugging Gallery. The museum shop in the entrance area is also worth a visit: from specialist literature to postcards and posters of the works exhibited in the museum and gallery to items of clothing by Austrian designers and specially made delicacies, the tempting range of products on offer is also worth a visit.
